My Story
Since I was a kid, I've always been around trucks. My mother has always worked in high positions at fleet trucking companies, so I remember the days as a kid when I would go with her to work and be around the trucks, attending truck shows and large trucking events. My goal was to one day become a business owner. I talked to her bosses, and they all had driven trucks to start their companies, so I was set on becoming a truck driver. However, my mom said I had to learn how the truck works and how to fix it before I learned to drive, because you never know when you'll break down.
At the age of 14, I went to an open shop and asked for a co-op position. From there, I worked hard to learn as much as I could about the different styles of trucks the shop serviced. I must have been doing well during the co-op because I was hired for my second job as a 310T apprentice. I worked there for the remainder of my high school years.
Once I graduated, I got an opportunity to work at a very large fleet organization. That was a great opportunity for me. Over the course of five years of employment, I completed my first and second terms of school. I worked my way up the ladder, and by the time I left, I was the shop foreman.
A good friend of mine gave me a push in the right direction and said, "Benny, you’ve got a drive like no other, and you should be doing this on your own."
So, I started doing mobile repairs, which turned into people wanting to schedule me at their yard or house to have work done, instead of dropping it off at a shop and not knowing when they'd get it back.
I pushed for a positive impact in the trucking industry, and that’s what I will continue to do. As a licensed technician, I will keep pushing to ensure all units, on and off the road, are safe.
